Agave is naturally fortified with Inulin. Inulins are a group of naturally occurring oligosaccharides (several simple sugars linked together) produced by many types of plants. They belong to a class of carbohydrates known as fructans. Inulin is used by some plants as a means of storing energy and is typically found in roots or rhizomes. Most plants which synthesize and store inulin do not store other materials such as starch.
Inulin is used increasingly in foods, because it has excellent nutritional and functional characteristics. It ranges from completely bland to subtly sweet and can be used to replace sugar, fat, and flour. This is particularly advantageous because inulin contains one-third to one-fourth the food energy of sugar or other carbohydrates and one-sixth to one-ninth the food energy of fat. It also increases calcium absorption and possibly magnesium absorption, while promoting probiotic bacteria. Nutritionally, it is considered a form of soluble fiber. Inulin has a minimal impact on blood sugar, making it generally considered suitable for diabetics and potentially helpful in managing blood sugar-related illnesses.

Bee Pollen Granules: We carry dried whole granules. Because of this we have full confidence of the product being 100% pure bee pollen. The granules are formed on bees legs as they collect it from the flowers. When the bees enter their hive they pass through a pollen screen which scraps the pollen off of their legs. Bee keepers are careful to limit the use of the screens so that the bees have plenty of pollen to eat for themselves. Pollen is a complete food and along with a little honey provides the bees total diet. Purity: Bee Pollen Powder is typically a blend of Bee Pollen and Human Harvested
Pollen powder. Many tablets are made from this blend. Human Harvested Pollen Powder does not have the nutritional benefits of Bee Pollen as the Bees impart enzymes into the pollen which changes the protein into free amino acids which are directly assimilated by the human body. It is very important to watch labels closely, many labels state they contain bee pollen (this could mean less than 1% bee pollen) with the balance being human harvested pollen. People with allergies to pollen generally are not allergic to bee pollen. Moisture: Our product is dried until it is very dry. Our Bee Pollen keeps better than high moisture Bee Pollen. Due to its low moisture levels - bacteria, molds and oxidation do not develop as they can in high moisture products typically sold elsewhere. High moisture product containing 10% more moisture should cost ten percent less in comparison to ours. Ours is dried at low temperatures to retain its full nutritional value. Nutritional Benefits: Bee Pollen contains around 50% Protein much of which is in the form of free amino acids. It is also high in the B Complex Vitamins and enzymes. Use: Bee Pollen Granules can be sprinkled on salads for added flavor. They have a slightly sweet taste and a strong flavor so are typically mixed with other foods. It is best to mix into foods after cooking as enzymes are destroyed by heat.

Buy 5 each of the 8 oz bottles for $14.99 Bee Safe is Safe enough to spray your picnic table. 8 oz Bee Safe is an environmental safe insect repellent. Developed primarily to_help provide safety and comfort for humans, without causing harm to pets or the environment. Bee Safe helps to protect you from bees, wasps, yellow jackets, hornets, ground wasps, black flies, mosquitoes and most flying insects. Bee Safe is made from natural ingredients in an herbal base, with different aromas that are pleasant to the sense of smell. The crystal clear Bee Safe solution is not harmful to plant or animal life, but certain insects are susceptible to its effects. When the insect breathes the sprayed particles from Bee Safe, the insect's respiratory system is disrupted. Instinctively, the insect senses danger and flies away. Since bees, wasps and yellow jackets are social insects, they have a unique communication system. The insect communicates the danger to other insects and they stay away. The effective duration of the spray is dictated by weather conditions - wind and rain.
How do you use Bee Safe?
• Safe to use on skin. Spray directly on to your skin and/or clothing. Spray any area that you wish to repel insects, e.g. your picnic table, play area, swing set, around your entrance door or spray directly at the insect(s).
• Repeated spraying depends on weather conditions, and the aggressiveness of the insects.
• The natural components by themselves are ineffective and must be combined for its synergistic effect.

When Professor Roger A. Hoopingarner decided to retire from Michigan State University, he called a few of his friends and asked them to help him put on a symposium. His premise was simple: What do you think will be the most critical issues in 21st Century apiculture? Fortunately, Hoopingarner's friend include members of the world's leading bee research teams. This edition reflects the views of 15 such teams. They identify subjects critical to the growth of our knowledge about bees and bee culture as they impact upon the future success of apiculture. Several subjects of continued need, such as pollination research, were excluded to create space for pressing issues.
The result is more than a snapshot in time. It is both a carefully constructed review of current research efforts as well as a preview of the future. Following two decades of rapidly changing international beekeeping, these views will carry forward into the 21st century.
THIS BOOK IS AN ESSENTIAL ADDITION TO ANY SERIOUS APICULTURE LIBRARY!!
Topics Covered:
Honey bee breeding methods
Honey bee defensive behavior
Breeding bees in Africanized areas
Foraging task organization
Hormonal control of division of labor
African bee genetics and physiology
Genetic changes to feral bees
Apis cerana bigeography
Apis nigrocinta

Guidelines for exhibitors,superintendents, and judges!!
The honey show is an opportunity for beekeepers to demonstrate their ability to package for show or market the same high quality products that honey bees store in their hive.
Many things can go wrong when honey and beeswax are removed from a colony and packaged for sale.
Honey is one of the few natural, unrefined food products on the market today.
Beekeepers are determined that the public continue to understand this, and they emphasize this fact at meetings, in writing, and at honey shows.
A judge at a honey show expresses his or her opinion about the quality of the entries, taking into account all of the variations that may occur.
However the judges' opinion must be based on guidelines that both the judge and the exhibitor understand.
This book was written for the express purpose of making these guidelines clear.

Beekeeper's Handbook (3rd Edition) Hailed as the best how-to book, it offers several ways to do everything right. Authors, Diana Sammataro and Alphonse Avitabile have revised and expanded their clear and comprehensive guide to cover changes beekeeping. They discuss the crisis created by the parasitic bee mites. In less than a decade, for example, Varroa mites have saturated the North American honeybee population with disastrous results, devastating both managed and wild populations.
This third edition newest of The Beekeeper's Handbooks, covers mite detection and control as well as the selection and testing of bees that may have some tolerance to mites.
For me personally, I started beekeeping in 1984 and found the original edition to be so valuable that I have since recommended this book to the hundreds of students who have started beekeeping from me. Some of the high points of this edition are:
Serves as a comprehensive well-illustrated introduction for beginners and a valuable reference for the experienced beekeeper.
Outlines options for each operation within beekeeping, listing advantages and disadvantages of each alternative.
Provides easy-to-follow directions and diagrams.
Includes glossary and updated bibliography suggesting more detailed information on the topics discussed.
Diana Sammataro is Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Entomology Extension Bee Laboratory of The Ohio State University.
Alphonse Avitabile is Emeritus Professor of Biology at the University of Connecticut, Waterbury.

Natural Beekeeping
Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture
Ross Conrad; Illustrations by Elayne Sears
Long-term solutions for healthy beehives.
The various chemicals used in beekeeping have, for the past decades, held Varroa Destructor, a mite, and other major pests at bay, but chemical resistance is building and evolution threatens to overtake the best that laboratory chemists have to offer. In fact, there is evidence that chemical treatments are making the problem worse. Natural Beekeeping flips the script on traditional approaches by proposing a program of selective breeding and natural hive management.
Conrad brings together the best organic and natural approaches to keeping honeybees healthy and productive. Readers will learn about nontoxic methods of controlling mites, eliminating American foulbrood disease (without the use of antibiotics), breeding strategies, and many other tips and techniques for maintaining healthy hives. Specific concepts and detailed management techniques are covered in a matter-of-fact, easy-to-implement way.
Natural Beekeeping describes opportunities for the seasoned professional to modify existing operations, increase profits, and eliminate the use of chemical treatments. Beginners will need no other book to guide them. Whether you are an experienced apiculturist looking for ideas to develop an integrated pest management approach or someone who wants to sell honey at a premium price, this is the book you’ve been waiting for.

The Backyard Beekeeper The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Keeping Bees in Your Yard and Garden
Author: Kim Flottum
This book isn’t only a guide to beekeeping or a honey cookbook; it’s both. No other book on the market provides an in-depth review of beekeeping and what honey is good for and how to use it.
Beautifully illustrated, the Backyard Beekeeper is perfect for the health conscious person who wants to sweeten up their life by saying no to processed sugars and yes, to eating organic, natural healthy food.
This book is the complete “honey bee” resource with general information on bees, a how-to guide to the art of bee keeping and how to set up, care for and harvest your own hives, as well as tons of fun facts and projects that are bee related. The second half of the book is the complete guide to honey. It reviews the different types of honey, health effects as well as provides 100s of ideas and recipes for using honey in recipes, cosmetically in face masks and shampoos, and for medicinal uses. Kim Flottum Bio: After receiving a degree in horticulture from UW Madison, Kim worked four years in the USDA Honey Bee Research Lab, studying pollination ecology. After that, he spent two years raising acres of fruits and vegetables, where bees played a large role. He brings this experience, plus nearly 20 years of writing and editing articles for beekeepers in the monthly magazine Bee Culture. He is the publisher of books on honey bee pests and diseases, marketing, queen production, beekeeping history, beginning beekeeping, and the classic industry reference, The ABC & XYZ of Bee Culture.

WEEDS OF THE NORTHEAST
Richard H. Uva; Joseph C. Neal; Joseph M. DiTomaso
Paperback
416 pages
6 x 9
746 color photos, 118 drawings, 17 tables.
Winner of the Educational Materials Award from the American Society for Horticultural Science
An Alternate Selection of the Garden Book Club
Here, at last, is a lavishly illustrated manual for ready identification of 299 common and economically important weeds in the region south to Virginia, north to Maine and southern Canada, and west to Wisconsin. Based on vegetative rather than floral characteristics, this practical guide gives anyone who works with plants the ability to identify weeds before they flower.
•A dichotomous key to all the species described in the book is designed to narrow the choices to a few possible species. Identification can then be confirmed by reading the descriptions of the species and comparing a specimen with the drawings and photographs.
•A fold-out grass identification table provides diagnostic information for weedy grasses in an easy-to-use tabular key.
•Specimens with unusual vegetative characteristics, such as thorns, square stems, whorled leaves, or milky sap, can be rapidly identified using the shortcut identification table.
The first comprehensive weed identification manual available for the Northeast, this book will facilitate appropriate weed management strategy in any horticultural or agronomic cropping system and will also serve home gardeners and landscape managers, as well as pest management specialists and allergists.
Reviews
"I highly recommend [Weeds of the Northeast] if you ever happen to be in a masochistic mood and don't have a sharp stick handy with which to poke yourself in the eye. As I leafed through the pages, wincing at the depressingly clear color photographs, a horrible sense of familiarity set in. Ninety-nine percent of the weeds were in my garden. It was like looking at a family album of all your least favorite relatives. There was mean and scary Great-Aunt Margaret (Scotch thistle); passive-aggressive Cousin Isobel with the mustache (hairy bittercress); Uncle Ralph with the drinking problem and disgusting table manners (prostrate pigweed). Despite the feeling of nausea that gripped me, I was able to gather much useful information of a scientific sort. As Nietzsche said, that which doesn't kill me makes me stronger, and so I suppose my encounter with an army of unnaturally über-weeds could be looked at as an exercise in character-building."—Horticulture, Jan/Feb 2005
“This impressive factual Weed Identification Manual, the first ever compiled of the Northeast, is thorough and well designed. . . . This is a distinctive book and reference guide on weeds, one that will be welcomed in a library, school, garden club, a gift for friends, and definitely a copy for yourself.”--The News of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State Inc.
“This detailed and user-friendly guide identifies nearly 300 weedy plant species commonly found from southeastern Canada south to Virginia and west to Wisconsin. Sharp color photographs illustrate each plant in seed, seedling, and mature stages. In addition, plants can be readily distinguished using an identification key based on vegetative characteristics such as leaf orientation, leaf shaped, and presence or absence of hairs. A handy fold-out chart helps with identification of those tricky grasses. Weeds that can be identified easily by characteristics such as thorns or milky sap are listed in a series of ‘shortcut’ tables.”--The American Gardener
“The appeal of Weeds of the Northeast is broad, ranging from home gardeners to professional gold course managers to farmers. The book deserves a slot in the reference library.”--American Reference Books Annual
“Weeds of the Northeast is the first comprehensive weed identification manual available for the northeastern region of the U.S. . . . The manual will facilitate appropriate weed management strategies in horticultural or agronomic cropping systems and will also serve home gardeners, landscape managers, pest management specialists, and allergist.”--Weed Technology
“Lavishly illustrated and exceptionally well-done. . . . Here is a model to be emulated for California and other weedy areas of the United States and Canada.”--Taxon 47
"[A]n outstanding identification and information guide. . . . The book provides a substantial amount of useful information for each of the species covered in detail. . . . This will be a useful book for agriculturists, horticulturists, land managers, and amateur and professional botanists who seek an easy and thorough guide to the ruderal flora of the Northeast. The keys, descriptions, and photographs emphasize common names rather than scientific . . . and are presented simply and clearly. The comparative tables are straightforward and nontechnical. The photos . . . provide information not found in other plant identification guides and will be useful to field ecologists."--Rhodora
“Knowing your opponents is the first step in weed prevention. Weeds of the Northeast is businesslike and well photographed--a useful tool for the conscientious gardener.”--Barbara Damrosch, author of The Garden Primer
"This is what a picture identification manual should be, with 3-4 photos of each of the 300 plants to show both close-up and complete view, the seeds, and other important ID aspects."--The American Herb Association
"An essential reference book for gardeners and botanists alike."--Northeastern Naturalist
"I've just bought the wonderfully handsome, well-arranged Weeds of the Northeast, by Richard H. Uva, Joseph Neal and Joseph M. Ditomaso. I have three other weed field guides, but this is the best. A person can never have too many books on weeds."--Sue Hubbell, Washington Post Book World
This book is a great compendium of full-color illustrations and text for wildflower identification and information."--Jeanne Mackin, The Ithaca Times, Summer 2000.
"{A]n excellent book. . . . Its main selling point was color pictures of each weed from seed to seedling to adult in flower."--Moira Sheridan, Wilmington, DE News Journal, June 29, 2000.
"I was amused to hear that many of the weeds I had been yanking out of my garden, including pigweed, lamb's quarters, purslane, and nettles, might be helpful if I ate them instead. Weeds of the Northeast . . . provides photographs of each plant, from seedling to flower and seed pod, a great help in identifying them."—Anne Raver, The New York Times, November 9, 2003
“[A]ttractively produced and scientifically accurate. . . . A broad spectrum of beautiful plants of ecological importance, including weeds, is included here.”--Choice
"'Uh-oh,' Rock said one night, as he sat poring over my favorite weed bible, Weeds of the Northeast. 'It's giant ragweed.' 'It can't be,' I said. 'Ragweed has lacy leaves, like tansy. And it isn't that tall.' But Rock, trying not to smirk, said, 'that's common ragweed, Ambrosia artemisiifolia.' (He is getting to be a real know-it-all, reading my books.)"—Anne Raver, "Hold the Weed Whacker," New York Times, July 29, 2004
“This is a thorough and well-designed book that’s been needed for a long time. The system of having both drawings and photographs accompanying the description of each plant will be of great help to amateur gardeners as well as to professional growers and horticulturists. The identification tables are also very useful.”-- Elisabeth Sheldon, author of A Proper Garden: On Perennials in the Border
“Knowing your opponents is the first step in weed prevention. Weeds of the Northeast is businesslike and well photographed--a useful tool for the conscientious gardener.”-- Barbara Damrosch, author of The Garden Primer
